Easy Philly Cheesesteak Calzone

Sure, Chicago has the best deep-dish pizzas.  For jambalaya, pralines, and gumbo, New Orleans can’t be beat.  Baltimore’s got crab cakes, New York’s got cheesecake and bagels, and New England’s got clam chowder.  But in Philadelphia, there is no food more iconic than the cheese steak.  Even Philly’s beloved fighter, Rocky Balboa, sunk his teeth into a bit of greased-up Philadelphia pride at Pat’s in the 1976 film.

Giving Tuesday– 10% of sales to be donated to the American Red Cross

Weeks have passed since Hurricane Sandy devastated the shores of New Jersey and the streets of New York City.  Although homes and property remain in shambles in many areas, the strength of those affected by the hurricane and the compassion of those who were more fortunate have not wavered.  In the time since Hurricane Sandy, thousands of donations of food, clothing, and necessities have been collected for the victims of the disaster, but the giving can’t stop there.

Well aware of the extent of Hurricane Sandy’s damage, this Cherry Hill, NJ based business  has decided to donate 10% of sales from Kitchen Kapers today (Tuesday, November 27th) to the American Red Cross to aid in the relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy.

Join the effort to help those who have been most affected and get your holiday shopping done at the same time.  As you shop, tweet us at @HostTheToast and include #GivingTuesday to let us (and the world) know how you’re helping the community today.  After all, it is the season of giving.

Adult Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate Floats

Now that the sweater and insulated jacket have regained their spots as wardrobe necessities, there’s no denying it—the season of barbeques, mojitos, and daiquiris has officially ended.  But not to worry!  As the temperature plummets, we can kick up the heat with one of the year’s tastiest drinks—hot chocolate.
As I found myself with numb fingers and a sweet tooth a few nights ago, I realized that there’s only one proper solution for a cold/hungry combo this time of year, and of course, it’s cocoa.  I sat with my friend and long-time roommate, Jackie, in the living room of what once was our shared apartment and sprung the idea on her. Want me to make some hot chocolate? Jackie laughed at first and declined—she would go get herself a glass of her signature Sweet Tea Vodka cocktail instead.  A little alcohol during our catch-up conversations was always welcome, if not expected.

Spinach, Pancetta, and Provolone Flatbread with Roasted Garlic Aioli

Sometimes I have a craving for the finer bites a soiree has to offer.  Sometimes I dream of red snapper ceviche.  I often drool at the thought of smoked duck breast with maple glaze, or of beef tenderloin with horseradish mousse, or clams casino.  Yes, those appetizers often dance around in my head as my stomach rumbles and mouth begins to water, but there is one thing that I always want to munch on…  And that’s pizza.
I don’t think I have to spend much time convincing you that pizza is amazing.  It is part of a weekly (sometimes semi-weekly) rotation in my house, and I doubt I am alone in that routine.  However, I always get slightly bummed when I’m having guests over and, due to the nature of the event, ordering pizza seems like a bit of a cop out.

Black Friday / Cyber Monday

As you probably realized from the “Thanksgiving Quesadillas” post last week, Black Friday is not my cup of tea. There are three reasons for this: 1) I have always worked on Black Friday, so even if I wanted to brave the crowds of people, I wouldn’t be able to. 2) I am scared for my physical well-being because people go insane on Black Friday. 3) I am scared for my mental well-being because people/lines/traffic would drive me insane on Black Friday.

If you’re like me and didn’t go out for Black Friday, (or maybe you did, but you still have some holiday shopping left to do), don’t worry. Cyber Monday is just around the corner, and you don’t even have to leave your house for those deals! In honor of Black Friday & Cyber Monday, the Host the Toast store is having a 10% off sale on all items through Monday, November 26th, so take advantage of it while you can!

PS. Earlier I said that you should check out the store site if you have more holiday shopping to do (and you should) but you should also check it out if you just want to buy a little pre-holiday present for yourself.  You deserve it.
